Putin explained the decision to launch a special operation by the lack of other choice

Russia had no choice but to launch a special operation. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with the new composition of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation on the eve of National Unity Day.

“Before you decide to uncover the machine gun, you need to think, is it possible to do without it? No, unfortunately, this could not be done. Why? Because we have already been attacked,” the president explained.

According to Putin, Russia tried for eight years to resolve the situation through peaceful means, but Ukraine publicly rejected this option by rejecting the Minsk agreements.

“These are our new, but historical territories. The people who lived in these territories are ours. And all subsequent events showed that they considered themselves part of Russia from the very beginning. But they were attacked in 2014. First they tried to attack Crimea, and then Donbass <…> Action had to be taken at some point to put an end to this. This is what we are striving for, and this is what dictates everything,” the president emphasized.
