Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud. About it informs Kremlin press office.

It is noted that the crown prince expressed gratitude to Russia “for the consistent support of the application of Saudi Arabia to join the BRICS.” In response, Putin congratulated the kingdom on receiving an official invitation to join the association and informed about the priorities of the Russian BRICS chairmanship in 2024.

In addition, the parties touched upon the topic of interaction between the two countries in the OPEC+ format. In particular, Putin and Al Saud drew attention to the fact that agreements to reduce oil production, combined with a voluntary restriction on the supply of raw materials, make it possible to “ensure the stability of the global energy market.”

On August 24, the leaders of the BRICS countries adopted the final declaration of the 15th summit of the association. In BRICS officially were invited UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Argentina, Egypt and Ethiopia. Full membership of new countries in the organization will begin on January 1, 2024. Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the new members of the association, noting that the BRICS countries will continue to work to expand the influence of the association in the world.

In 2024, Russia will chair the BRICS. At the 15th unification summit in South Africa Brazil, India, China and South Africa supported holding the 16th BRICS summit in Russia in 2024. Putin noted that during the chairmanship, Russia will “interact in the most constructive way with its partners in the Five in order to further strengthen the role and authority of the BRICS, which, of course, will only grow.”
