Putin discussed work in “certain international organizations” with members of the Security Council

Russian President Vladimir Putin held an operational meeting with the permanent members of the Security Council, which discussed the work of the Russian side in international organizations. About it informs Kremlin press office.

“I propose today to discuss our work in some international organizations that are of particular interest to us in today’s conditions,” the head of state said.

Then the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov made a report. The meeting was also attended by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and others.

Russia is a member of a number of international organizations. In particular, the Russian Federation is a permanent member of the UN Security Council, takes part in the CIS, BRICS, the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the SCO, the CSTO, etc. In February, Lavrov pointed outthat about 20 countries expressed their desire to join the BRICS and SCO.

In early May, at a meeting of SCO foreign ministers in Goa, India, “increased attention” was paid to the expansion of the organization, said in a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry. It is expected that at the July SCO summit Iran will officially receive the status of a member of the organization. The process of admitting Belarus to the organization is also ongoing, the department added.

Putin regularly holds operational meetings with the Security Council. Last time it passed 5 May. According to the Kremlin, issues related to the preparation of the Victory Day celebration were discussed at the meeting.
