President Vladimir Putin held a meeting in Novo-Ogarevo with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov, Foreign Intelligence Service Director Sergei Naryshkin, head of the Russian Guard Viktor Zolotov and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov. Together with members of the Security Council, the president discussed the special military operation and the war between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas.
“We will discuss two issues. The first is the situation in the Northern Military District zone, I’ll ask the Minister of Defense to briefly talk about this, this is exactly what is happening right now at this point in time. The second is the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone, the situation in Gaza,” the president began the meeting.
Sergei Shoigu spoke at the beginning. The minister reported that a layered active defense had been built in all directions on the Ukrainian front. He assured that the Ukrainian army had not achieved success in offensive operations.
“In many areas we manage to improve the tactical situation, nowhere has any advance actually been allowed. We have completed the spring offensive campaign that the Ukrainian authorities planned, the summer one, and now the autumn one. And they failed to achieve success in any of this campaign,” reported Sergei Shoigu.
Next, Security Council members touched upon the crisis in the Middle East. Vladimir Putin emphasized that there are many Russian citizens “from both one side and the other” in the zone of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Sergei Ryabkov said that Russia is working on the issue of Russians leaving the combat zone in Israel. He also warned that the war between Israel and Hamas tends to escalate, and the IDF operation in Gaza is indiscriminate. “The threat of Israeli ground operations in the Gaza Strip remains,” Mr. Ryabkov emphasized.
