Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the head of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, Alexander Shokhin. They, in particular, discussed the issue of modernizing the tax system, which the head of state spoke about in his message to the Federal Assembly. Mr. Shokhin noted that differentiation of personal income tax is ripe in the country, but it needs to be linked with investment deductions for citizens, reports press service Kremlin.

“We understand that personal income tax differentiation is overdue here, but we would like this to actually be connected with the same investment deductions for citizens who invest, for example, in long-term securities,” said the head of the RSPP. He recalled that the State Duma recently decided to provide deductions to people who use, in particular, individual investment accounts and long-term savings programs.

According to Mr. Shokhin, as part of the work on personal income tax differentiation, it is not enough to simply raise rates for relatively wealthy people. There are many aspects in which the RSPP would like to participate, the head of the union noted. He also said that after modernizing the tax system, a moratorium on changes may be introduced. The President nodded affirmatively in response to this.

The head of the RSPP said that the union would like to work on the topic of changing the tax system with the government and parliament in order to understand the situation for the coming years by the time the budget is compiled. Vladimir Putin said that their meeting is the beginning of such work.

In addition, the head of state and the president of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, in particular, discussed the business climate in Russia and personnel shortages. Alexander Shokhin invited Vladimir Putin to take part in the annual congress of the union, which will be held on April 18.

On February 29, in his message to the Federal Assembly, Vladimir Putin instructed to implement “a more equitable distribution of the tax burden.” In particular, we are talking about increasing the tax burden for people with higher incomes. According to the head of state, it is necessary to fix it in a new form before 2030. The Ministry of Finance reported that legislative initiatives on this topic are already ready.
