Putin congratulated the President of Abkhazia on the Republic’s Independence Day

Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the leader of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhania on Victory and Independence Day of the republic and promised Moscow’s support. The telegram from the head of state was published on September 30 at website Kremlin.
30 years ago, the people of Abkhazia, as Putin noted, “in a stubborn struggle defended their legitimate right to a free, peaceful life.” According to him, relations between the two countries are developing “in the spirit of alliance and strategic partnership,” and strengthening ties in all directions meets common interests.
“I would like to confirm that Russia intends to continue to provide all possible assistance to the government and people of Abkhazia in solving pressing socio-economic problems, as well as in ensuring national security,” said the Russian president.
Abkhazia can become a member of the Union State when establishing political and economic relations with Belarus, stated Earlier today RIA Novosti, Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic Sergei Shamba.
Despite the declaration of independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in the 1990s, Georgia still considers them its territories. In 2008, Russia recognized the independence of the republics. Venezuela, Syria, Nicaragua and Nauru also recognize the independence of states.
