On April 2, the head of Russia Vladimir Putin addressed a congratulatory speech to the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on the Day of Unity of the Peoples of the two countries. The words of the Russian leader were quoted on the official website of the Belarusian president.

Putin noted that despite the difficult political situation, both Russia and Belarus have done a lot to strengthen ties and develop the two states.

“The successful implementation of the agreed union programs ensured the unification of the legislation of Russia and Belarus in the most important areas and created the basis for the implementation of a unified macroeconomic and monetary policy,” said Vladimir Putin.

In turn, the Belarusian president said that the experience of Minsk and Moscow “allows us to effectively respond to challenges and threats.”

The Day of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and Belarus has been celebrated annually on April 2 since 1996 after the signing of the agreement “On the Formation of the Community of Russia and Belarus”
