Russian President Vladimir Putin during a plenary session at the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF) commented on the statement of the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, who called Russia a “fascist state”.
“He (Josep Borrell) just speaks with his tongue, he is a great specialist in this field. But God be with him, God be his judge,” the president said. Putin also recalled Borrell’s words that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine would end on the battlefield. Putin called this a strange diplomatic stance and said that this rhetoric could be understood if Borrell was not a diplomat, but “a minister of defense of some country.”
On September 5, as part of the European Parliament conference in Prague, Borrell announced the absence of a specific plan for the victory of “fascist Russia”. A spokesman for the head of European diplomacy later clarified that the Estonian politician Marko Mihkelson asked Borrell the question about “fascist Russia”.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia had asked Mr. Borrell’s office for a transcript of his speech in Spanish, but “they don’t give it.” Lavrov said that if Borrell’s statement is confirmed, “then we, of course, will have very big questions about how to continue to do business with these people.”
