Putin called unrealized potential for growth in trade between Russia and Qatar

The trade between Russia and Qatar has a solid, but not yet realized, growth potential, declared Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Middle Eastern state Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani.
“Currently, bilateral trade figures are relatively small in absolute terms, but there is a solid and untapped growth potential,” he said.
Russia hopes, Putin added, that this potential will be realized by an intergovernmental commission headed by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak on the Russian side.
The President also asked to convey his best wishes to the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
June 21, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at a meeting with Al Thani declared about Russia’s readiness to increase the supply of products to the country. He noted that in 2022 Russia increased exports of food and agricultural products to Qatar by more than 50%. The prime minister estimated the volume of joint projects of both countries at more than 160 billion rubles.
Russia began to increase interaction with the countries of the Middle East after the start of the military operation in Ukraine and the subsequent Western sanctions. In late April, Putin had a telephone conversation with Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud. And last June SPIEF Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebboun took part, calling Putin “a friend of all mankind.” Putin and Tebbun also signed a declaration on an in-depth strategic partnership between the two countries.
