Conducting a special operation in Ukraine is an attempt to stop the war that has been going on there since 2014. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this in an interview with China Central Television (CTK).

“I want to remind you that hostilities began in Ukraine not with our military operation, but much earlier – in 2014, when Western countries, having acted as guarantors of agreements between President Yanukovych and the opposition, forgot about their guarantees literally through and, moreover, contributed to the coup,” he said.

After the coup in 2014, military operations began in the southeast of Ukraine, the head of state added. “We waged these hostilities for eight years, killing women and children. And no one in the West paid attention to this, or pretended not to notice,” he noted.

Putin recalled that the US administration directly stated that $5 billion was spent for these purposes. In particular, the current official representative of the US State Department, Victoria Nuland, in April 2014. confirmedthat since 1991, Washington has allocated $5 billion to Kyiv “to support the aspirations of the people of Ukraine for a stronger, democratic government.”

Putin has repeatedly said that Russia is trying to end the war that began in 2014 on the territory of Ukraine. In October 2022, the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions became part of Russia.
