Putin called the reduction of gas supplies not the best option for solving environmental problems

“Cutting off” Russian gas supplies is not the best option for solving global environmental problems, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a conversation with participants in an environmental forum taking place in Kamchatka.

The head of state noted that all states are in favor of reducing emissions into the atmosphere, but everything needs to be done in a timely manner, to prepare industrial enterprises.

“And if you jump ahead, get cheap Russian gas, and then cut off the supply of this gas yourself and immediately turn on everything that was anathema, including coal generation, this, of course, is not the best option for solving global problems,” the president emphasized (quote according to TASS).

After the start of the special operation in Ukraine, Western countries imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia, which, among other things, affected the supply of energy resources. So, in early June, the EU introduced a partial embargo on Russian oil, and on August 10, an embargo on the purchase of coal from Russia began to operate. European countries are also looking for ways to abandon Russian gas.

As part of the fight against the energy crisis and the prevention of possible difficulties with gas supply this winter, the EU countries decided to save energy and reduce their consumption by 7-15%. Under the plan, Germany, for example, called on households and companies to reduce gas consumption by 20%.
