Putin called the Federation of Trade Unions an inconvenient partner for the government

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the Chairman of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia (FNPR) Mikhail Shmakov. He called the federation “often an inconvenient partner for the government.”

“I want to say that over these years of work, one might say, joint work, you are still often an inconvenient partner for the government. But still, in general, approach solving social issues from a state position,” the president said (quoted from website Kremlin).

Vladimir Putin added that the FNPR should proceed from the interests of workers. He also noted the importance of a government approach.

Mikhail Shmakov said that the interests of the state and workers “generally coincide.” In 2023, as the chairman of the federation recalled, it will be 30 years since the creation of the organization. Now, according to him, the FNPR is moving towards a congress.

At the end of 2023, it became known that employers, trade unions and the government had agreed on a draft of a new general tripartite agreement for 2024–2026. Its main position is the need to initiate mandatory membership of Russian state corporations in the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP).
