Statements that Russia is allegedly involved in the incident on the Balticconnector gas pipeline between Estonia and Finland are “bullshit,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a press conference following his official visit to Bishkek.

“Bullshit. To be honest, I didn’t even know about the existence of this pipeline, because it is very small in volume <...> As far as I was told at Gazprom, it is not even as protected as our (Nord) Streams,” he said.

The head of state suggested that the pipeline could have been damaged due to a technological incident or earthquake.

“The president [Финляндии Саули] “Ninistically, he is a literate, intelligent person, but he cannot help but understand that such statements are aimed at only one thing: to cover up the terrorist attack committed by the West against Nord Streams,” the president is sure.

On October 8, the Finnish natural gas transmission system operator Gasgrid reported a drop in pressure in an offshore gas pipeline at night. According to the company, the cause could be a leak. The Finnish government later admitted that the leak may have been the result of a deliberate act.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, in turn, assured that the bloc will give a decisive response if the gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia is damaged as a result of a deliberate attack.

The 80 km long bi-directional gas pipeline Balticconnector was launched in 2019. It runs through the Gulf of Finland and along the land route between Finland and Estonia. Its capacity is up to 2.6 billion cubic meters. m per year.
