According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the legal status of private military companies remains a complex issue. In an interview with Kommersant, the Russian leader notes that this issue requires additional consideration in the State Duma and the government.
Putin also expressed his position on the events that took place on June 24. In his opinion, for the Russian society everything was clear and obvious. He notes that the rank and file soldiers of the Wagner fought with dignity, and expresses regret that they were drawn into these events.
Regarding the meeting with representatives of the private military company, which took place on June 29, the head of state said that they were offered various employment options. He mentions the opportunity to serve under their commander with the callsign “Seda”.
A bill to legalize private military companies has been discussed in Russia for several years. In March 2022, A Just Russia – For Truth submitted a new version of the draft to the government, but so far this rule has not been adopted.
