Putin called on Russian military personnel in Kyrgyzstan to show tact to the local population

Vladimir Putin, during his first foreign visit to Kyrgyzstan this year, took part in a gala event dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Russian Kant military base. He recalled that after the attack by gangs in 2003, the Kyrgyz authorities directly turned to Russia with a request to “immediately, as quickly as possible, deploy our air wing.”
Since then, Russian military personnel “have been serving with honor, successfully fulfilling the multifaceted tasks assigned to them, and assisting Kyrgyz law enforcement agencies in the fight against extremism, terrorism, drug trafficking and organized crime.”
According to the president, the base operates “in connection with the main goals and objectives of the CSTO”: in 2022, its flight personnel were involved in an operation to restore law and order in neighboring Kazakhstan.
Putin promised that Russia will continue to provide the air base with the most advanced types of weapons, modern technology and equipment, as well as resolve everyday and social issues of military personnel.
Addressing directly the personnel of the contingent, Putin said that service abroad imposes a special responsibility. In addition to constant vigilance, it, according to him, requires “manifestation, endurance, tact and friendly disposition towards the population of the receiving country.”
“I know you won’t let me down, I’m counting on you,” Putin told the servicemen.
