Putin arrived in Samarkand for the SCO summit

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Samarkand for the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), write “RIA News”.

On September 15-16, Samarkand will host a meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State for the first time in three years. It is expected that several issues will be discussed at it, including those related to strengthening the organization’s potential in the field of ensuring security and stability, strengthening economic ties, as well as issues of developing transport interconnection.

On the sidelines of the event, Putin will hold a series of bilateral meetings. In particular, meetings are planned with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and heads of other states. According to the agency, he will discuss with the latter the issue of gas supplies from Russia, as well as the details of partial payment for fuel purchases in rubles and lira.

Formerly Reuters reportedthat Putin also intends to discuss with Erdogan the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, where on the night of September 13 the conflict escalated. Then the parties accused each other of aggressive actions and escalation. On the morning of September 13, with the assistance of Russia, a truce and ceasefire was reached, but by September 14, shelling resumed. Today it became known that Baku and Yerevan again reached ceasefire agreements.
