Putin: armed rebellion would have been suppressed anyway

The armed rebellion attempted on Saturday, June 24, would have been suppressed in any case. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin during his address to the nation. The speech was broadcast on the Kremlin’s Telegram channel.
“From the very beginning of the events, all the necessary decisions were made to neutralize the threat that had arisen, to protect the Constitutional system, the life and safety of our citizens. An armed rebellion would have been put down anyway,” he said.
During his speech, Putin pointed to the inherent patriotism of many Wagner fighters, saying that they were used “in the dark” against “their brothers in arms.”
“Therefore, from the very beginning of the events, on my direct instructions, steps were taken to avoid a lot of bloodshed. This took time – including to give those who made a mistake a chance to change their minds. To understand that their actions are resolutely rejected by society and what tragic consequences for Russia the adventure in which they were dragged leads,” he said.
The President also thanked the PMC fighters who “stopped at the last line”, saying that they have the opportunity to continue serving Russia by signing a contract with the Ministry of Defense or other law enforcement agencies. They can also return home or go to Belarus, Putin added.
“The promise I made will be kept. I repeat, the choice is yours,” he added.
