Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the procedure for residents of the new regions of the country to apply for a Russian passport and about their unwillingness to be Ukrainian citizenship. The relevant decree published on the official portal of regulatory legal acts.
The document defines the procedure for filing applications for the issuance of a Russian passport, as well as for the recognition of a child under the age of 14 as a citizen of Russia. Also approved is the procedure for filing and recording applications for unwillingness to be a citizen of Ukraine.
“I decide to approve the attached procedure for the submission by persons who have acquired citizenship of the Russian Federation as a result of their recognition as citizens of the Russian Federation, an application for the issuance of a passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation,” the document says.
On September 30, Putin and the heads of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions signed agreements on the annexation of the regions to Russia. Putin stressed that the inhabitants of the annexed territories “become citizens of the Russian Federation forever.” Referendums on the issue of joining the regions to the Russian Federation were held from 23 to 27 September. According to the results of calculations, 100% of ballots in the DPR and LPR supported joining Russia by 99.23% and 98.42% of those who voted, respectively, in Zaporozhye and Kherson regions – 93.11% and 87.05%, respectively.
