Russian President Vladimir Putin approved a new version of the concept of the country’s foreign policy by signing a corresponding decree.
“Dramatic changes in international life have required us to seriously adjust key strategic planning documents, including the concept of the foreign policy of the Russian Federation, which outlines the principles, tasks, priorities of diplomatic activity <...> Today I signed a decree approving the updated concept of the foreign policy of the Russian Federation,” the head of state said at a meeting with permanent members of the Security Council.
Putin specified that the new document was developed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in coordination with the presidential administration, the Security Council apparatus, the government and other ministries.
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov toldthat the new concept “states an unprecedented level of international tension over the past decade.” According to him, “the main initiator and conductor of the anti-Russian line” was the United States and, in general, the policy of Western countries.
February 21 Putin announced on Russia’s unilateral suspension of participation in the Strategic Offensive Arms Treaty (START III), which was concluded between the US and Russia in 2010 and extended in 2021 for another five years. Then the president said that Russia was aware that the Kiev regime was attempting to strike at strategic aviation bases and the drones used for this “were equipped and modernized with the assistance of NATO specialists.”
On the same day the President acknowledged expired decree on measures to implement the foreign policy of Russia, signed in 2012. According to the text of the new decree, the decision was made in the framework of ensuring the national interests of the country in connection with changes in international relations.
