Putin appreciated the importance of the Russian language for the CIS

The Russian language is a powerful unifying force that holds the CIS states together, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at an informal summit of Commonwealth leaders in St. Petersburg.
“Our peoples are really connected by a lot: a common history, spiritual roots, a deep interweaving of cultures and customs, values and traditions. And, of course, the Russian language, which is a powerful unifying force that holds our multinational states together,” declared Putin (quote from RIA Novosti).
The head of state also recalled that at one of the summits it was decided to hold a year of the Russian language in the CIS countries next year.
At this meeting, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also expressed confidencethat the role of the Russian language in the CIS space “cannot be subject to any doubt.” In his opinion, the assignment of the official status of the cultural capital of the CIS to St. Petersburg in 2023 will serve to strengthen cultural ties between the countries of the commonwealth.
This autumn, Putin at a meeting of the Russian organizing committee “Victory” declaredthat the basis of Russia’s national identity is the continuity of generations, loyalty to traditions, as well as high spiritual and moral guidelines. As the President noted, they continue to be reflected, supported, developed in culture, creativity and in all spheres of everyday life. The head of state also recalled that historical memory is one of the traditional values.
December 13 Putin instructed government to take measures to popularize the heroes of Russian history and folklore, “meeting traditional values”, including the use of images of these characters in the production of visual, printed and souvenir products.
