Russian President Vladimir Putin accepted the resignation of Alexander Burkov from the post of governor of the Omsk region. Vitaly Khotsenko, who previously held the post of Prime Minister of the DPR, was appointed acting head of the region by presidential decree, informed Kremlin press office.

The fact that the Kremlin intends to announce the resignation of Burkov, earlier wrote “Vedomosti”. Burkov is one of two regional leaders from the Just Russia party (the other is the head of Chuvashia, Oleg Nikolaev). He became acting head of the Omsk region in October 2017. Before that, he was a deputy of the State Duma of the 5th, 6th, and 7th convocations. An interlocutor of Vedomosti, close to the presidential administration, noted that there were no special complaints against Burkov, and he wrote a letter of resignation himself, explaining this by the fact that he initially planned to hold the governor’s post for one term.
Among the politicians who wanted to lead the region, Vedomosti’s interlocutors named State Duma deputy from United Russia Igor Antropenko, representing the Omsk region, and Oleg Denisenko, deputy plenipotentiary representative in the Siberian Federal District.
Burkov’s resignation was the third in the last two weeks. On March 15, Putin replaced the head of Chukotka, Roman Kopin. For the post of acting head of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug Putin appointed Vladislav Kuznetsov, who previously held the position of First Deputy Prime Minister of the LNR.
