Putin Appoints Rashid Nurgaliyev as First Deputy Secretary of the Security Council

Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Rashid Nurgaliyev First Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation by his decree. The decree was published on the official Internet portal legal information.
Previously, Mr. Nurgaliyev served as Deputy Secretary of the Security Council, his place, according to decree President will be occupied by Alexey Shevtsov.
The position of the first deputy secretary of the Security Council was held by Yuri Averyanov. Vladimir Putin freed him from office on 1 February. United Russia reported that Mr. Averyanov had been appointed assistant to party chairman Dmitry Medvedev.
In the 1990s, Rashid Nurgaliyev served in the central apparatus of the FSB. In 1998, he served as the head of a department in the Main Control Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation. From 2004 to 2012, Mr. Nurgaliev was the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. He was appointed Deputy Secretary of the Security Council on May 22, 2012.
