Putin announced violations of the principles of the Convention on the Prohibition of Bioweapons

The principles enshrined in the Convention on the Prohibition of Biological and Toxin Weapons are systematically violated today, declared Russian President Vladimir Putin. This is stated in his greeting to the participants and organizers of the IV International Scientific and Practical Conference “Global Threats to Biological Safety. Problems and Solutions”.

The head of state stressed that today it is very important to maintain and strengthen the mechanisms of international cooperation in the field of countering various biological threats.

“First of all, this concerns the Convention on the Prohibition of Biological and Toxin Weapons, which entered into force almost half a century ago. Unfortunately, recently the principles approved by this fundamental document have been systematically violated,” the President’s address says.

At the same time, a number of countries that want to use international problems “to ensure their own biological security at the expense of others” are trying to interfere with emerging useful initiatives to counter biological threats.

Russia, Putin added, is in favor of strengthening international mechanisms to prevent the development and proliferation of such weapons.

“We proceed from the premise that international cooperation for these purposes should be carried out on an equal footing, with indispensable respect for the sovereignty of all states,” the president said.

Putin also pointed to the importance of building up the collective efforts of the world community in the fight against epidemics, stressing that Russia will continue to actively help in the elimination of outbreaks of dangerous infections in various parts of the world.

At the end of March, a commission on a parliamentary inquiry into the activities of American biological laboratories confirmed data of the Russian Ministry of Defense on the creation of US and NATO military facilities in Ukraine under the guise of biological laboratories. The 200-page document stated that the United States maintains and develops the ability to create biological weapons components and, if necessary, produce and use them outside the national territory.
