Putin announced the overcoming of economic risks

Despite the difficulties that arose in 2022, Russia managed to successfully overcome the risks in the economy. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting on economic issues.

“Look, 2022 was a very difficult year for us, and we managed to get through those [экономические] risks that arose largely unexpectedly. <...> In general, we have successfully overcome all these risks,” the head of state said (quote according to TASS).

Putin added that the Russian authorities “roughly understand” what risks the economy may face in 2023.

During the meeting, the President declaredthat the performance of the Russian economy in 2022 turned out to be better than many forecasts. Referring to preliminary data from the Ministry of Economic Development, Putin said that Russia’s GDP fell by 2.5% in 2022. At the same time, in the fall, the Ministry of Economics estimated the decline in the Russian economy at 2.9%. The President of the Russian Federation also cited data on inflation in the country. In 2022, it amounted to 11.9%, which is less than the Central Bank and the Ministry of Economy predicted.

Prior to this, Putin has repeatedly spoken about the difficulties that have arisen for the Russian Federation due to the sanctions imposed against the backdrop of the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine. At the same time, the Russian leader emphasized that the West failed to reach its goal and bring down the country’s economy.

On December 15, during a meeting of the Council for Strategic Development and National Projects, Putin declared about unjustified calculations to “crush” the Russian economy with the help of sanctions. Later, he noted that Russia passed 2022 “quite confidently.” Putin addedthat at the moment there are no concerns that the current situation will interfere with the implementation of plans for the future, including for 2023.

January 11 head of state emphasizedthat nothing happened to Russia that “the enemy predicted” for her. Putin pointed to the composure of the citizens of the Russian Federation and their readiness for challenges.
