It is impossible to achieve total import substitution, but Russia needs to achieve technological sovereignty in the field of shipbuilding, declared President Vladimir Putin during a meeting on the development of the shipbuilding industry.
“We must more actively develop our own competencies in the field of shipbuilding … It is impossible to replace all imports, and it is not necessary to do this, but it is necessary to achieve technological sovereignty in critical positions of ship equipment, in the most significant production processes and technologies,” the head of state said.
According to Putin, Russian shipbuilders have everything they need for the successful development of the industry, including experience and scientific potential, as well as a resource and industrial base. It is necessary to support the initiatives of Russian shipbuilders, domestic suppliers and customers, modernize shipyards, and provide financial mechanisms so that Russia can, among other things, increase the capabilities of the Northern Sea Route, the president added.
Putin also noted that import substitution may affect the parameters of already launched projects, but everything possible must be done to minimize this impact.
Earlier in May, the government decided to extend the implementation of investment projects for the construction of fishing vessels for two years against the backdrop of anti-Russian sanctions.
