Putin announced the consideration of the issue of social guarantees for PMC fighters on a par with the military

Russia is considering the issue of providing social guarantees to PMC fighters and their families on an equal basis with military personnel. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this at a meeting with Maria Lvova-Belova, Commissioner for Children’s Rights under the President of Russia.

“Now we are considering this issue. <...> Just formulate all your suggestions in this direction, we will take them into account when making decisions. Definitely,” he said.

During this meeting, Lvova-Belova pointed to a “small injustice” in which the military, serving under the contract, receive social guarantees, while PMC fighters do not, although “both of them are heroes.”

Putin stressed that both volunteers and contractors, and “those who switched to military service as part of mobilization” should be in the same situation in terms of providing social guarantees and protective measures. “They all fulfill their sacred duty to the Motherland and to the Motherland in this sense, they are all equal. Therefore, in terms of guarantees to all social, in terms of protective measures, they should be in the same situation, ”said the President (cit. according to TASS).

In early January, Putin signed a decree on additional social guarantees for servicemen participating in a special operation in Ukraine and their families. According to the document, the families of the military, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Guard in the event of their death during the SVO will be paid a lump sum of 5 million rubles. Soldiers who are wounded or shell-shocked are entitled to a one-time payment of 3 million rubles. In addition, one day of military service will be counted as two, and the time of continuous treatment in case of injury in the performance of tasks – at the rate of one month of military service for two months.
