Putin announced good rates of economic development in the Smolensk region

Russian President Vladimir Putin during today’s meeting on socio-economic development of the Smolensk region stated about the region’s obvious successes in a number of areas.

“I would like to note that in a number of important areas of socio-economic development, the Smolensk region has gained good momentum, there are obvious successes,” the Kremlin press service quotes him as saying.

The index of industrial production in the first half of this year amounted to 111.9%, which is the seventh result in the country, and the output of manufacturing enterprises increased by 17.5%. The president also noted “good prospects” in the agricultural sector of the Smolensk region.

“We are also talking about the production and deep processing of flax, rapeseed and other crops, and the development of livestock farming. The investment projects implemented here also give a return,” Putin explained.

The leadership of the region is faced with the task of organizing work in such a way as to ensure comprehensive development of the region, launch new infrastructure and logistics projects, encourage business activity, work to increase incomes and quality of life of the population, and also develop the social sphere.

Putin also congratulated residents of the region on the 1160th anniversary of Smolensk celebrated this year, as well as on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Smolensk region from the Nazi occupiers. Many natives of the region today are participating in special operations in Ukraine, showing courage and valor, he said.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to all of them for their loyalty to duty and the Fatherland, and I ask the regional leadership to keep under personal control the issues of providing all necessary assistance and support to heroes and their families,” Putin said.
