Putin announced a two-fold increase in trade between Russia and Turkey

Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Sochi, said that trade between the two countries has doubled in the first five months of this year, transmits RIA Novosti agency.

“Suffice it to recall that last year our trade turnover increased by 57%. And in the first months of this year, up to and including May, it doubled,” Putin said.

Putin said that there are many areas of interaction between Russia and Turkey. He added that the countries are working on the implementation of major projects, including the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant.

Putin also expressed hope for the signing of a memorandum on the development of trade and economic ties with Turkey. “As agreed, I hope that today we will be able to sign an appropriate memorandum on the development of our trade and economic ties, taking into account the agreements that were reached by our delegation while working in Turkey,” the Russian President said.

Previously became knownthat Erdogan flew to meet with Putin in Sochi along with a delegation of diplomats, including the head of Turkish national intelligence, Hakan Fidan. Also among the politicians was the country’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, the Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar and others.
