Putin and Macron will again discuss the situation around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant in the coming days

Presidents of France and Russia Emmanuel Macron and Vladimir Putin will again discuss the settlement of the situation around the Zaporozhye NPP after the contact of technical groups on the upcoming mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to the plant. About it says in the communique of the Elysee Palace following a telephone conversation between the two countries.

“The two presidents will again talk to each other on this topic (the situation around the ZNPP) in the coming days after discussions between technical groups and before the deployment of the mission (IAEA),” the message says.

Earlier today, Putin and Macron had their first telephone conversation after several months at the initiative of the French side. Putin, according to the Kremlin, declared about the threat of a large-scale catastrophe due to the systematic shelling of the ZNPP by the Ukrainian military.

During the conversation, the leaders of the two countries confirmed the importance of sending a mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to the station as soon as possible, which would assess the situation on the spot, follows from the reports of the Russian and French sides.

On the eve of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, it was reported that Kyiv was preparing a provocation at the ZNPP during the visit of UN Secretary General António Guterres to Lviv. The department stressed that the Ukrainian side plans to lay the responsibility for this on the Russian military.

August 16 became known on the start of preparations for the second IAEA mission to ZNPP. According to Mikhail Ulyanov, permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, the preparations are still going slowly because of the vacation of the director of the agency, Rafael Grossi.

The UN also announced its readiness to ensure the visit of the organization to the station through Kyiv, with the consent of Russia and Ukraine. The Russian Foreign Ministry objected that it was unsafe to deliver the mission through the capital of Ukraine, since the path from Kyiv to the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant runs through the front line.
