Putin allowed to publish declarations of parliamentarians in anonymized form

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law that will allow deputies and senators to publish information about their income and expenses in an anonymized form. The document was published on the official Internet portal legal information. The law will come into force on March 1, 2023.

According to the law, parliamentarians will continue to submit declarations of income, expenses and property, but they will be published without personal data. Parliamentarians of regional and municipal legislative assemblies who work on a permanent basis must submit reports once, four months after being elected. Further, only if their family members or she herself make transactions that exceed their income for the last three years.

Meanwhile, some deputies reported about plans to continue publishing their declarations according to the old model. This was stated, among other things, by State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, deputies from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Olga Alimova and Mikhail Matveev. Kommersant wrote that the abolition of the public declaration of property for parliamentarians is necessary as part of the “protection of personal data.”
