By the end of 2023, Russia’s GDP may increase by 1-2%, despite the slowdown in the global economy, President Vladimir Putin believes. He stated this in a greeting to the participants and guests of the XXVI St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), published on website Kremlin. SPIEF will take place on June 14–17.
According to Mr. Putin, “it is important to make the most of the opportunities that are opening up and focus on achieving technological and financial sovereignty.” He also considers it important to build “optimal cooperation and logistics”, improve infrastructure, reduce inequality and poverty. “According to experts, in 2023 the global economy will continue to slow down, and Russia’s GDP may grow by 1-2%,” he said.
In addition, the President named stimulation of the labor market among the priorities. Vladimir Putin said that in this area, “close, partnership interaction between the state and business circles is required to introduce lean production technologies and modernize enterprises.” He also called it important to fine-tune “the system of training and retraining of personnel, improving the national employment service.”
The Ministry of Economy of the Russian Federation expects that GDP growth in 2023 may exceed 1.2%. According to forecast Central Bank (CB), the development of the economy in 2023 will be influenced by domestic demand. The Central Bank also confidently expects an increase in inflationary pressure in the economy in the summer of 2023.
