Russian President Vladimir Putin allowedthat Russia should have started a special military operation in Ukraine earlier. But Moscow hoped to reach an agreement with Kyiv within the framework of the Minsk agreements.
The head of state stated this at a press conference dedicated to the results of the EAEU summit.
“Russia got its bearings on Ukraine late, and maybe we should have started earlier, but we hoped to solve it amicably,” Putin said.
He admitted that he was unpleasantly surprised by the statements of former German Chancellor Angela Merkel that the real reason for the negotiations was the desire to give Ukraine time to prepare for a military confrontation with Russia. However, Putin noted that the German politician only confirmed the obvious.
Former Russian President declared that Russia has a deterrent – a strategy of pre-emptive strike.
