Pushkov: the Vietnam War taught the United States nothing

The Vietnam War has taught the United States nothing 50 years later, Aleksey Pushkov, chairman of the Federation Council Commission on Information Policy, wrote on his Telegram channel.
He recalled that March marked the 50th anniversary of the withdrawal of US troops from Vietnam. The Americans began to conduct active hostilities in Vietnam in 1965. By 1968, 500,000 US troops were sent to Vietnam.
“Over 8 years of war, 400 thousand tons of napalm and 7.5 million tons of bombs were dropped on the territory of this country. $680 billion was spent on military operations. At the same time, the United States was initially convinced of a quick and easy victory,” Pushkov wrote.
He noted that now statements are being made from the White House about plans to “win in Ukraine”, and earlier the Americans were promised “victory in Syria.”
“The 20-year war in Afghanistan also ended with a defeat for the United States. But history seems to teach America little more than to repeat its own strategic miscalculations. But even if they are not obvious to the US itself, they are more and more obvious to the rest of the world,” Pushkov wrote.
