Pushkov: It is important for the European Union to formally launch the process of accepting Ukraine

The European Union wants to create the impression of political dynamics around Ukraine. This opinion was expressed in Telegram Senator Alexey Pushkov.
According to the politician, it is important for the EU to at least formally “launch the process” of accepting Ukraine in order to maintain its reputation as a center of power. European politicians want to show that they have a strategy towards Kyiv.
However, Brussels’ attempts to bring Ukraine into the European Union will face serious opposition even from those countries that previously remained silent on this issue.
Pushkov recalled that Hungary and Poland are actively opposed to the admission of Ukraine. And Western experts believe that such a step would cost 200 billion euros annually, which would hit the financing of agriculture for many EU members.
“It’s unlikely that the leadership of the European Commission is not aware of this,” the senator noted.
Let us recall that the day before the European Commission recommended starting negotiations on accession to the EU for Ukraine and Moldova.
