In early August, Advisor to the Acting Head of the DPR, Yan Gagin informedthat the battles for Kleshcheevka, Kurdyumovka and Andreevka are still going on. He stressed that Kleshcheevka is under the control of Russian troops. According to Gagin, part of the heights near the village is occupied by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the enemy is firing from there on the approaches to Artemovsk. He called the current situation problematic, expressing confidence that the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) “will solve this problem.”

The Russian special operation in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. During the hostilities, Russian troops took full control of the LPR, as well as most of the DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. The Ministry of Defense announced the capture of Kleshcheevka on January 20, 2023. Artemovsk came under Russian control on May 21 of this year.
