Pushilin said he would nominate himself for the election of the head of the DNR in 2023

The head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Denis Pushilin, announced that he would nominate himself for the election of the head of the region in 2023. Now Mr. Pushilin works in the status of an interim.

“Yes, I made that decision. This is my responsibility, and not even since 2018, but since 2014. I stood at the origins of the creation of the republic, so I feel my inner responsibility for all the processes that are taking place. If there is appropriate support, we will work,” Mr. Pushilin said during a direct line with residents of the DPR (quote from “RIA News”).

According to the head of the DPR, over the years of his leadership, the republic has achieved its main goal – it has become a subject of the Russian Federation. The first elections in this status, according to previous statements by Mr. Pushilin, the republic will hold on the second Sunday of September 2023.

Denis Pushilin began his political career in Donbass in 2013 – he ran in the by-elections to the Verkhovna Rada in district No. 94 (Kyiv region) from the party of Sergei Mavrodi “Mi Maemo Metu” (MMM, translated into Russian – “We have a goal”) .

With the beginning of unrest in the Donbas, Denis Pushilin organized rallies near the building of the regional administration of the Donetsk region. After the formation of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), he took the post of co-chairman of its interim government. From May 15 to July 18, 2014, he headed the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the DPR (the highest position at that time). Since November 2014, he has been deputy chairman, and since September 2015, chairman of the People’s Council (parliament) of the DPR.

Denis Pushilin became acting head of the republic after the assassination of the previous leader Alexander Zakharchenko in September 2018. In November 2018, he won the election.
