During the capture of Soledar by the Russian military, foreign mercenaries were captured. Denis Pushilin, acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), announced this on the air of Channel One.
“As for the prisoners, I cannot tell you the exact number now. There are foreign mercenaries, but, as a rule, the Ukrainian regime continues, let’s say, to hide it as much as possible, ”he said (cit. according to TASS).
According to Pushilin, now the fighting outside Soledar continues. He refused to name the exact number of people lost by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but noted that there were “thousands and thousands.”
January 12 Soledar was completely taken under the control of the Russian military. The Ministry of Defense stressed that this is of great strategic importance for a further offensive. According to Pushilin, this increases the chances of liberating Artemovsk (Bakhmut) and Seversk, and also makes it possible to destroy the front line. In addition, the capture of settlements opens up the possibility of the liberation of Slavyansk and Kramatorsk.
Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. During the special operation at the end of September, the LPR, DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions became part of Russia.
