Protests in the West due to the deterioration of life in 2022 have become three times larger

Actions against rising prices and falling living standards in Western countries in 2022 gathered 3 times more participants compared to the previous one. And in January 2023, the trend towards the expansion of protests continues. Europe has started 2023 especially actively. By February 1, 2023, the number of demonstrators had already reached 4.1 million people, which is 12 times more than in January last year and exceeds the number of protesters in the entire first half of 2022, Vedomosti calculated according to ACLED (the largest open base public actions and conflicts).

In total, over 21,500 economic protests took place across Europe and North America in 2022, involving 6.3 million people. This is 43% more than in 2021, when 4.4 million citizens took to the streets. There were 2.9 million dissatisfied with rising prices and low wages among all protesters with economic demands in 2022, which is 3.2 times more than a year earlier.

Due to the weak ability of centrist governments to respond to protests, they increasingly feel electoral competition from the far right and far left, experts say.
