At least two people were detained during a protest against the arrival in Georgia of the Astoria Grande cruise ship with Russians on board, transmits local news agency Batumelebi.
According to the InterPressNews agency, during the action there were detained about 10 people.
The protest began at midnight on 31 July. The action was attended by civil activists and members of the opposition political party. The participants tried to break through the barricades and enter the territory of the port of Batumi.
The cruise liner Astoria Grande left Sochi on July 29. According to information on the company’s website, it was supposed to arrive at the port of Batumi at 06:00 on July 31. Later, the ship will head to Istanbul and from there return to Sochi.
This is not the first protest that accompanies a cruise ship from Russia. In particular, on July 27, another vessel Astoria Grande made a stop in the port of Batumi. Then the local oppositionists reported that the Russian citizens who were on the liner were allegedly violating Georgian legislation. In turn, the Deputy Minister of Economy of Georgia, Guram Guramishvili, noted that the liner is not under international sanctions, and recalled that it is the tourism sector that makes a big contribution to the economy.
