Ex-president of Moldova Igor Dodon was summoned to court on Monday: a corresponding request was published on the website of the department. Prosecutors of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office want to return the former president to house arrest.
Earlier, the collegium of the Supreme Court of Justice of Moldova changed the preventive measure of the policy from house arrest to judicial supervision. According to the decision of the court – an analogue of a written undertaking not to leave – Dodon is forbidden to leave Moldova for two months.
In the spring, opposition protests began in the country against rising prices and the economic crisis. The actions were carried out, in particular, by the Party of Socialists, which was previously headed by Dodon.
The ex-president was detained in May and placed under house arrest. In October, the hearing of the criminal case began. Dodon is charged with accepting a bribe of up to $1 million from the former leader of the Democratic Party, oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc. The former president completely denies his guilt – he is sure that the cases were opened for political reasons.
