The head of Rostec, Sergei Chemezov, informed President Vladimir Putin about an increase in weapons production. The production of ammunition for small arms, multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) and cannon artillery was increased by 50 times, tanks by seven times, and armored vehicles by 5.5 times. Mr. Chemezov called the increase global.

“Artillery, armored vehicles, tanks, combat aircraft, small arms, drones, ammunition, and so on are regularly sent to the troops. Honestly, if we had not carried out a global modernization of our enterprises by 2022, I think that the increase in production by several times, which occurred last year and this year, is unlikely, we probably would have been able to accomplish this,” said Mr. Chemezov on meeting with Mr. Putin.

The head of the state corporation considers the production of aircraft and aviation to be the main civilian projects. He recalled that by 2030 more than 500 aircraft should be produced: 270 MS-21, 142 Superjet 100, 115 Tu-214. Currently, 18 MS-21s are at various stages of readiness. It is expected that serial production will begin in 2024, six aircraft will be transferred to Aeroflot. It is planned that by 2029 the production volume will be 72 aircraft per year.

The domestic PD-8 engine, according to Mr. Chemezov, is already ready. Tests on test benches and on a flying laboratory have been completed. It is expected that in 2024 and in subsequent years, 20 Superjet 100s with PD-8 engines will be delivered to airlines. The head of Rostec said that PD-8 was completed in record time – within six years from the start of design. For comparison, the American Pratt & Whitney created its engine for the Airbus A320 for 15 years.

In 2024, it is also expected to receive a certificate for the VK-650V helicopter engine. It will be installed on Ansat and Ka-226. The flight range of the Ansat helicopter will be increased from 500 km to 660 km, with an additional tank – up to 800 km. In addition, serial production of VK-2500 and TV3-117 engines begins, which are installed on the Mi-17, Mi-8, Mi-171, Ka-62 and Ka-52. Certification is underway for a passenger and search and rescue helicopter based on the Mi-171A3.

By order of Rosneft, the second stage of certification of the “offshore helicopter” is expected to be completed in 2024. It will be used to service offshore platforms. The helicopter will be able to land on water and sand. According to the head of Rostec, Malaysians have shown interest in the products.
