President Vladimir Putin is holding a meeting on the development of closed administrative-territorial entities and Arctic cities. He stated that problems have accumulated in the Arctic zone that need to be addressed. Among them, he named the depreciation of communal infrastructure, which reaches 70% in large cities.

In remote villages and closed administrative territories, this problem is even more acute, Mr. Putin argues. He complained that officials were slow to complete their tasks. “Last year, at a meeting dedicated to the Arctic, we decided to develop an action plan for the development of the housing, energy and social infrastructure of ZATOs and settlements in the Arctic zone, where our military formations are deployed. However, the task is still being solved, to put it mildly, slowly, ”Vladimir Putin emphasized (quoted from site Kremlin).

According to him, the development of Arctic settlements is of great military importance. “I will not go into details here, but in these areas we have many interests in the field of defense and security. Therefore, people who live in these conditions must live in human conditions, and special attention should be paid to this,” the president said.

In March, the Russian authorities revised their position on international cooperation in the Arctic: from the “Fundamentals of the State Policy of the Russian Federation in the Arctic until 2035” by decree of President Vladimir Putin, they removed the mention of two regional organizations – the Arctic Council and the Council of the Barents / Euro-Arctic Region. After the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, the Western countries-members of these structures essentially declared a boycott of Russia.
