Prime Minister of Saxony opposed the supply of Taurus missiles to Ukraine

The Prime Minister of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer, spoke out against the supply of long-range Taurus cruise missiles by Germany to Ukraine. About this he declared in an interview with Spiegel.
“I am categorically against the supply of cruise missiles. The federal government repeatedly crosses its red lines. First – in the supply of Leopard tanks, now – in cruise missiles. What’s next?” – he said.
Kretschmer wonders if Germany really admits the possibility that German missiles could hit Russian territories. Instead of such an outcome, the politician called for “new, intense diplomatic initiatives from the free West.”
According to Johann Wadeful, deputy chairman of the CDU/CSU faction in the Bundestag, the Taurus can “definitely” help Ukraine, but these missiles are not a “wonder weapon” for a counteroffensive. In Kyiv, the need for missiles was explained by the possibility of shortening the duration of hostilities and reaching Russian forces “far behind the front line.”
On August 11, Der Spiegel magazine reported that the German government was exploring the possibility of delivering Taurus missiles to Ukraine in the coming months. According to the publication, Chancellor Olaf Scholz wants to technically limit the programming of missiles in order to exclude the possibility of UAF strikes on Russian territory. A Reuters source also confirmed that the German authorities are negotiating this with the European company for the production of missile systems MBDA.
That Ukraine requested Germany will supply Taurus missiles with a range of up to 500 km, it became known at the end of May. According to Der Spiegel, Germany bought about 600 Taurus 10 years ago, of which only 150 missiles can now work. Initially, the German authorities opposed the supply of such missiles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Moscow condemns pumping Ukraine with new types of weapons, said Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergei Nechaev. The diplomat stressed that this “only prolongs the conflict and increases the number of victims.”
