Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said following talks with Estonian Prime Minister Kaya Kallas in Tallinn that he does not regret the imposition of sanctions against Russia, despite the fact that they hit the Greek tourism industry like a boomerang.
“Greece … was really influenced by the fact that we joined the European Union in all the sanctions packages,” the prime minister said.
He admitted that in the summer of 2022, tourists from Russia did not come to Greece, because “almost all Russians went to Turkey”, while in previous years the tourist flow was up to 800 tourists.
“We paid the price with the conscientious implementation of the sanctions package. I am convinced that we did the right thing,” Mitsotakis concluded.
