Prime Minister of Belarus urged to intensify the process of the republic’s accession to the SCO

Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko announced the need to intensify efforts to join the republic in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). He spoke about this during the presentation of the new head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Sergei Aleinik to the staff of the ministry, transmits BelTA.
“We need to defend our interests where we are already participating, and maximize the process of joining the SCO,” he said.
The Belarusian prime minister also urged to pay special attention to integration issues with Russia, as well as interaction with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the CIS.
The SCO was founded on June 15, 2001 by the leaders of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. It now also includes India, Pakistan and Tajikistan as permanent members. At the end of November, the Iranian Parliament approved draft law on the accession of the republic to the SCO, for entry Tehran must recognize the documents that have been approved since the establishment of the organization.
Observers in the SCO are Belarus and Mongolia, as well as the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, de facto non-existent since August 2021.
The SCO is not a military bloc or an open regular security meeting. The objectives of the organization are the strengthening of stability and security in Eurasia, the fight against terrorism, separatism, extremism, drug trafficking, the development of economic cooperation, energy partnership, scientific and cultural interaction.
