Writer Zakhar Prilepin said that he was appointed deputy commander of the Oplot special-purpose regiment of the Russian Guard, based on the battalion created in the DPR in 2014. Mr. Prilepin will start combat missions when he recovers from his wound.

“Created by us with the legendary militiaman of the first wave, Colonel Sergey Zavdoveev, the battalion of the Russian Guard ‘Oplot’ expands to a regiment and receives heavy weapons, received the position of deputy regiment commander, and after recovery I will return to duty,” Zakhar Prilepin wrote in his Telegram channel. According to him, the unit is being expanded “for excellent performance” in the zone of a special military operation.

Initially, the publication announced the appointment of Mr. Prilepin Daily Storm with a link to the source. According to him, the formation of the Oplot special-purpose regiment is taking place on the basis of the 21st Order of Zhukov of the National Guard Brigade. In the future, the source said, the regiment will be redeployed to its own base on the territory of new regions.

The Oplot unit was created in 2014 by the then head of the DPR, Alexander Zakharchenko, after the outbreak of the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine, and consisted of militias. Later, a battalion was formed from the unit as part of the National Guard. Zakhar Prilepin also served as deputy commander. According to the Daily Storm, the regiment will be armed with its own artillery and heavy equipment, including tanks.

On May 6, the Audi Q7 car, in which Zakhar Prilepin was returning from Donbass, was blown up in the village of Pionersky in the Nizhny Novgorod region. He has had several surgeries on his legs. By the end of May, he was transferred from the intensive care unit to the regular one. He’s in rehab.
