President of Kyrgyzstan may visit Russia on May 8-9

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov may come to Russia on an official visit on May 8-9. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexei Overchuk during a meeting with Zhaparov.

“On May 8-9, we are expecting your official visit. Of particular importance to this visit is the fact that it is timed to coincide with the celebration of our most important common holiday – Victory Day. Of course, we always remember what contribution Kyrgyzstan made to this victory and the defense of Moscow, this is sacred to us, ”he said (cit. by Interfax).

Overchuk drew attention to the confidential nature of bilateral relations between Russia and Kyrgyzstan. According to him, Zhaparov’s visit to Moscow will bring the two countries even closer.

The last time Putin and Zhaparov met was in December 2022. Then the Russian leader came on a working visit to Kyrgyzstan, where the summit of the European Economic Union was held. Following the trip, Putin and Zhaparov accepted joint statement on ensuring international information security.

In August 2022, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, at a meeting with the head of the presidential administration of Kyrgyzstan, Akylbek Zhaparov, announced that the trade turnover between Russia and Kyrgyzstan in the first half of the year increased by 34% and exceeded $1.4 billion.

Sadyr Japarov became President of Kyrgyzstan in January 2021. Putin congratulated him with an election victory. For the first time, the leaders of the two states held telephone conversations on November 12, 2020, when Zhaparov was acting president after the voluntary resignation of Sooronbai Jeenbekov. The heads of state discussed the state of and prospects for Russian-Kyrgyz relations, emphasizing the need to continue systematic work to strengthen the alliance and strategic partnership between the countries.
