Preparations for a referendum on joining Russia began in the Zaporozhye region

The Electoral Commission of the Zaporozhye region began preparations for holding a referendum on the issue of joining the region to Russia, stated Galina Katyushchenko, chairman of the regional electoral committee. Her video message was published on the Telegram channel of a member of the main council of the military-civilian administration (CAA) Vladimir Rogov.
“Today, the election commission in full force has begun its work. We held the first meeting, distributed responsibilities among the members of the commission,” Katyushchenko said. According to her, active preparations are underway for holding a referendum on the issue of joining the Zaporozhye region to Russia.
She noted that the authorities of the region will ensure the legitimacy and openness of the referendum, and voters will be able to ask their questions about voting on a special “hot line”.
Russian troops took control of the Azov part of the Zaporozhye region and the Kherson region shortly after the start of a special military operation in Ukraine. In June, the pro-Russian authorities in Zaporozhye announced plans to become part of Russia before the end of the year. After that, the ceremony of issuing the first Russian passports took place in Melitopol.
On August 8, the head of the regional CAA Evgeny Balitsky signed a decree on holding a referendum on the entry of the Zaporozhye region into the Russian Federation. From September 1, all educational institutions of the Zaporozhye region will work according to Russian standards.
