The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) did not receive an invitation to participate in the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. About it reported TASS president of the organization Stanislav Pozdnyakov.
According to Poznyakov, the participation of Russian athletes in the Asian Games was supported at the summit in Lausanne in December 2022.
“What happened next is difficult to say. There is absolutely no hope. Games start on the 23rd. We did not receive an invitation,” explained the ROC president.
In January 2023, Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) offered allow Russian and Belarusian athletes who do not take an active part in supporting the special operation to the 2023 Asian Games in a neutral status. However, on September 1 it became known that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the OCA banned athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in the Asian Games in Hangzhou. The ban was explained by “technical reasons.”
The Asian Summer Games will be held from September 23 to October 8, 2023. The competition was supposed to take place a year ago, but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
