Russian business understands the needs of the country and the need for its contribution, said the head of Norilsk Nickel, Vladimir Potanin.
“I can get my point across. It has been voiced by many of my colleagues, and I agree with those who say that any change in the existing tax system is undesirable in terms of the fact that it gives some wrong expectations. It would not be entirely correct to consider periods associated with previous profits,” Potanin noted, commenting on changes in the tax situation and the discussed one-time business payment (quote according to RIA Novosti).
According to him, business is aware of what is expected of it, so the decision to contribute to the current situation will be “adequate and will benefit the country.”
The government has been discussing a one-time contribution to the budget with the largest companies for more than a month. The fact that such a one-time payment to the budget is being discussed was announced on February 8 by First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov. According to him, many enterprises received “very good” financial results last year, especially in the first three quarters. This is not a tax increase, but the so-called windfall tax (tax on windfall profits), the First Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
Initially, the collection was planned as voluntary, but in mid-February, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov announced that it would be implemented through amendments to tax legislation. The Ministry of Finance expects that the business contribution to the budget will be about 300 billion rubles, Siluanov reported.
